Point of Entry
Uses as a point of entry a photograph of my son, Isaac, who modeled for me one morning when eastern light was coming through the living room window.  My attraction to the photograph centered around the brilliance of the light and the delicate positioning of the hands which resembles the hand placement in flute playing.  I chose to paint an overexposed version of the photograph in order to capture and express both the visual essence and tactile sensation of light.  The title, ISAAC, Schlafend (schlafend means sleeping in German)  pays homage to similar titles in the Sabine series of paintings by the contemporary German painter, Gerhard Richter, whose work I greatly admire.
